Newcastle are struggling to off load Grant Hanley.

According to a report in The Chronicle the club may consider forcing certain players to train with the reserves to speed up their departure.

Newcastle spent £5m a year ago signing Hanley from Blackburn Rovers but he struggled to get close to a first team place despite his Championship experience.

Rafa Benitez is on the look out for at least two new central defenders with Hanley aware that his services are no longer required.

Shifting Hanley could be difficult with the player sitting on a contract until 2021 that very few Championship sides will match on top of a transfer fee.

Derby County and Wolves have been linked to the Scotland defender but it seems that a loan deal is the most likely solution as Benitez tries to reduce the size of his squad to make way for new signings ready for the Premier League.
