Newcastle are stepping up their interest in Vincent Aboubakar.
According to a report in the Northern Echo the Porto striker is attracting the attention of Rafa Benitez who is resigned to losing out of Tammy Abraham.
Aboubakar spent the season just finished on loan to Besiktas with reports claiming that Porto are looking for £9m for the striker.
That wouldn’t worry Benitez who has complete control of the Newcastle budget but the 25-year-old has personal terms of £2.5m a year.
That level of wages would cause concern for Benitez who doesn’t view Aboubakar as a first choice striker.
Newcastle have found themselves landed with a number of onerous contracts in recent seasons with Benitez aware that all transfer activity and budgeting is his remit with the overall package for the Porto striker a concern.
Aboubakar spent two seasons at Porto before his loan stint in Turkey and has previous experience of playing in France for Lorient.
