The mystery surrounding Newcastle’s interest in Pepe Reina has deepened with the player’s agent claiming that there has been no offer made to his client.
According to a report in The Sun, Manual Garcia Quilon told an Italian news outlet: “We do not have offers from any other clubs, as we are focused on Napoli and expect news pretty soon.”
Reina has a year left on his Napoli contact but has been strongly linked with a reunion with Rafa Benitez who is looking to bring in an experienced goalkeeper to Newcastle.
Weekend reports claimed that there was friction at Newcastle over their failures in the transfer market putting the future of Benitez at risk.
The Newcastle boss has been linked with a number of players but bringing in a top class keeper is a priority for the club’s Premier League hopes.
Reina is hoping to extend his Napoli deal but if no agreement can be secured it’s likely that he’ll be sold rather than allowed to run down the final 12 months of his contract.
