Newcastle are one of a number of English clubs keeping tabs on Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose, according to the Mirror.

The Brazilian was watched by Everton last week during Sociedad’s 1-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid. The Toffees are seeking a replacement for star forward Romelu Lukaku, but the Magpies, Southampton and Watford have also recently made trips to Spain in order to see the 25 year old in action.

The Mirror report that Ronald Koeman’s side are leading the queue currently with a £27million bid reportedly being lined up but the forward could also figure highly on Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez’s summer wishlist.

It has been widely reported in the local press that the Magpies will seek to strengthen the club’s forward line in the summer with Dwight Gayle’s ongoing injury problems, and a lack of goals coming from other strikers. Burnley’s Andre Gray and Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson figure prominently on the transfer shortlist but Willian Jose could also be a name being considered.

In 28 appearances in all competitions this season, the striker has scored 11 times and provided two assists.
