Tuttomercatoweb are reporting that former Newcastle full back Davide Santon is keen on a return to the Magpies.

Santon played for the club between 2011 and 2015 before re-joining Inter after starting his career with the Serie A side. The defender’s agent is said to be in contact with Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez about a possible move for the 26 year old.

Santon played under the Spaniard during Rafa’s brief stint in charge of Inter between 2010 and 2011, and it seems the left back is keen on making a return trip from the Giuseppe Meazza to St James’ Park.

Santon was a regular starter at the beginning of the season under manager Frank De Boer but since the arrival of Stefano Pioli as head coach, he has seen his first team opportunities curtailed. The player has made just two brief substitute appearances since November and looks to be surplus to requirements at Inter.

It seems that Benitez has yet to decide on whether to make a move for Santon, but he is seeking cover at right back, with Vurnon Anita looking poised to leave at the end of the season with his contract expiring.
