It’s been rather difficult for DeAndre Yedlin in black and white thus far, having largely operated as second fiddle to Vurnon Anita in the right-back berth. Still, the American was a truly wonderfully outlet yesterday, overlapping Matt Ritchie with aplomb.

With Murphy up front, it was crucial Ritchie got in support of the central striker, allowing Yedlin to run riot up and down the right flank with his searing pace. At times this season, Newcastle looked completely bereft of ideas outside of Jonjo Shelvey, though Yedlin’s pure pace can be a pragmatic answer to such a problem.
