Newcastle United returned to the top of the Championship yesterday after thumping bottom of the table Rotherham 4-0 at St. James’ Park, though the final scoreline perhaps didn’t tell the final story.

In truth, the Millers made it really rather difficult for the home side in the opening 45 minutes and, if it wasn’t for Karl Darlow’s zero-to-hero moment, would have taken the lead after the Magpies stopper initially messed up. Still, Rafa Benitez’s team looked like a completely different beast as soon as Daryl Murphy hit an opener just before the interval.

His cultured finish made it three goals and three games for the big man and he’s looking like a huge signing for the club, even if it really is for just a season.

Ayoze Perez and a Matt Ritchie double rounded off the scoring, while the likes of Jonjo Shelvey (what a shock) and DeAndre Yedlin particularly impressing.

So, Newcastle won. Happy families. But what else did we learn?

Well, here are FIVE things the mullering of the Millers taught us.
