Newcastle United will not give up on their hopes of bringing Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney to the club this winter, according to reports in the Chronicle

The Magpies have been strongly linked with a move for the 25-year-old, though were reportedly quoted upwards of £20m for his services and Aston Villa have recently been touted as a potentially interested party.

Following the links, the former Scotland U21 international is understood to be well aware of interest emanating out of St. James’ Park and perhaps the idea of potentially playing Premier League football in the next six months or so could well be attractive.

For their part, the Cottagers are said to be nervous about losing their playmaker following months of good performances in the Championship, though it remains unclear as to whether or not those at St. James’ Park would pay that sort of figure.

With Rafa Benitez’s side struggling for creativity, the former Hull City man could help on that front should he arrive on Tyneside.
