According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot is considering asking for a loan move away from Tyneside should he continue as the club’s third-choice stopper. 

In stark contrast to the little options available in other areas of Rafa Benitez’s squad, the ‘keeping department is heavily stocked at St. James’ Park right now. Karl Darlow continues to impress in the No.1 role, while summer signing Matz Sels has been afforded starts in cup competitions.

Elliot, who produced a number of stunning performances prior to an injury that wrecked his Euro 2016 dream with the Republic of Ireland, has only been able to muster two appearances for the Magpies’ U23 side since returning to full fitness.

A popular figure amongst the St. James’ Park faithful, he’s understood to have attracted interest from the likes of Cardiff City, Rotherham and Wigan Athletic as he weighs up asking for a move away. Though he’s said to be happy with life on Tyneside right now, it’s believed Martin O’Neill wants to bank first-team games before recalling him to the international setup,
