According to Italian outlet TMW, Newcastle United are expecting to be told how their bid for Leganes midfielder Gabriel Pires has been received by the La Liga side.
The 23-year-old midfielder was recently touted as a potential target for the Magpies as Rafa Benitez desperately tries to add some reinforcements to his midfield as the deadline of January’s transfer window dawns on St. James’ Park, with reports linking the former Juventus youngster coming slightly out of left-field yesterday.
He only left the Serie A giants on a permanent basis in the summer of 2015, scoring just two goals in 17 games so far this season.
Now, this report claims the Spanish side are due to give the Toon Army their answer over the reported bid in the next few hours, with the Magpies having struggled to get any deal over the line so far this month. Attacking options are somewhat light on the ground right now, with Benitez relying heavily on Daryl Murphy in recent weeks.
