The latest name to be linked with a move to Newcastle United’s promotion charge this month is that of Middlesbrough winger’s, Stewart Downing.
After falling down the pecking order at the Riverside, the 32-year-old has been touted as a potential target for both the Toon Army and former Magpies chief Sam Allardyce at Crystal Palace.
There’s little doubt another winger is needed at St. James’ Park with Rolando Aarons a long-term injury, though it’s fair to say the former England man is one of the more left-field suggestions.
Any move to bring the ex-Liverpool and Aston Villa ace across the North East is likely to be a much-talked about one, considering his standing at local rivals Middlesbrough.
Still, Downing is a good player and proved impressive in the Championship last term, so you can well imagine the debate sparked on Twitter.
So with that in mind, here’s how Newcastle fans reacted to the Downing rumours.
@CraigHope_DM he's not the answer for us! He's far too slow. We need some much needed pace

I would take Downing on loan and look to sign Rhodes permanent #nufc

Really don't want downing, go all out and get cairney and Osborn to young talents that will provide creativity #nufc

Stewart Downing available on loan, would be ideal for him to come to us & doesn’t need to relocate. Thoughts people? #NUFC
