Championship leaders Newcastle United are considering a move for Angers winger Nicolas Pepe, according to French outlet L’Equipe

Following the 2-0 win away at Wigan last night, manager Rafa Benitez hinted he could look to buy a winger as cover for Rolando Aarons.

He was ruled out for up to a year with a knee injury and on-loan Chelsea winger Christian Atsu will depart for the African Cup of Nations in January.

With that in mind, the Toon are being linked with a move for the 21-year-old following his good form in Ligue 1.

Pepe recently broke into the Ivory Coast squad following his impressive performances for Les Scoïstes.

The Toon could reportedly face some illustrious competition from the likes of Monaco, Roma and Juventus, however.

Still, he could also be picked for AFCON duty in the New Year with Les Elephants when January rolls around.

Angers are understood to want around €10m for their winger should he leave in the January sales.
