Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has shared his thoughts on reports linking skipper Jamaal Lascelles with a move away from Tyneside.

Both Chelsea and Liverpool have been linked with a move for the defender, who has established himself as the darling of St. James’ Park.

After an explosive interview following the dismal defeat at Southampton last season, the former Nottingham Forest man has become a vocal member of the first-team.

Despite a shaky start to the season, the 23-year-old has shrugged off some poor performances and is a major part of the promotion campaign in black and white.

There’s little to surprise to see him linked away, considering he is a young and talented English defender, a rarity in the current climate of the market.

However, thanks to quotes sourced from the Daily Express, Benitez has moved to cast doubt on the notion Lascelles could leave the club in January.

“I saw the links, but I have been talking with Jamaal and with more people around him,” said Benitez.

“He’s happy, he’s OK.

“We think that he’s a good player for us, so I don’t see any big change in January around him, or anyone really.”
