Amid all the hustle and bustle of Newcastle United’s hugely busy summer of business, one name is largely forgotten about amongst the club’s fans.

Having welcomed 12 players into the squad and a farewell bid to a few more, Rafa Benitez constructed a huge overhaul on Tyneside.

Not everyone was simply sold, however, with the Spaniard opting to send a number of talents on loan.

One of those was a certain Siem De Jong, who proved a figure of frustration at St. James’ Park ever since signing for the Toon Army from Ajax in 2014.

A myriad of injuries blighted his spell in the North East of England and the Oranje international was unable to impose himself under Alan Pardew, John Carver, Steve McClaren or Benitez.

He was farmed back out to the Netherlands this summer, joining PSV Eindhoven for the entirety of the campaign.

Still, it’s clear the playmaker still has fans in Amsterdam, having skippered the Eredivisie titans during his spell in the Dutch capital.

One of those is Marc Overmars, who is now the sporting director for Ajax.

Still, he scoffed at any suggestion the 27-year-old could be let off on the cheap.

“If Newcastle see me coming, I don’t think they will offer a discount for Siem de Jong”, laughed the former Arsenal man to Voetbal International.
