Currently on loan with Luton Town, Newcastle United’s Alex Gilliead has spoken out on his future.

The 20-year-old joined the Hatters on a short-term loan deal until January late on in the summer transfer window and manager Nathan Jones recently suggested he’d like to extend the player’s stay in Bedfordshire.

Still, the youngster was born in the North East and is a huge fan of the Toon Army, revealing he’s determined to make a go of things in black and white.

‘You can’t let them get to you too much”, he said (with our quotes sourced from the Chronicle Live.)

”It’s obviously nice to hear it and it’s nice for people to say it, but I’ve got to keep my head down and keep working hard because I want to be in Newcastle’s first team.

”I’ll have to speak to Newcastle to see what they want me to do, because I’m their player.”

For so long, the academy prospects on Tyneside have failed to deliver, though the England U20 international is getting rave reviews down in League Two.

It follows a productive spell with Carlise last season, where he made over 40 appearances.

He, along with fellow loanee Adam Armstrong, could well indicate a better future for the club in that regard, something hugely promising for the St. James’ Park faithful.
