Racing Genk defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is attracting interest from Newcastle, according to Belgian website Voetbalnieuws.be. The Nigerian international had been linked with a £6million move to Watford in the summer transfer window, and had also garnered interest from the likes of Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Tottenham in recent months.

Reporting on Racing Genk’s match against Sassuolo in the Europa League on Thursday, Votebalnieuws reported that the Magpies had an interest in two Genk players, with winger Leon Bailey being the other young star being watched.

Ndidi has been at Genk for two years after signing for just £150,000 from his home country Nigeria. He already has four caps for the senior national side, and is able to play in a number of positions. As well as playing the holding midfield role, he can play at centre half and at full back; a type of player we know Rafa Benitez already likes after praising Newcastle’s utility player Vurnon Anita.
