Newcastle winger Christian Atsu says he is delighted to be finally starting matches at Newcastle United.

The Ghanaian international signed on loan from Chelsea in the summer but initially struggled for game time at St James Park. After scoring the winning goal against Rotherham United in a 1-0 win on his first start for the club, he followed that up with a solid display at the weekend against Brentford. He told the Chronicle that he is simply happy to be playing:

“I am pleased for each and every game I get. Everybody would like to play for Newcastle. For me, I am getting playing time so I know I need to help the team. Like I said, I am happy to be here.”

The 24 year old has had a difficult time in English football since he arrived at Stamford Bridge from Porto in 2013. After struggling for game time in a season long loan at Everton, he spent the first half of last season at Bournemouth but after failing to feature in a single league game, his loan was cut short after six months and he was sent out to Malaga where he enjoyed more minutes on the field. With two successive starts, Atsu will now be hoping he can finally establish himself at a club.
