Newcastle scouts were at the match between FC Anderlecht and Racing Genk this weekend to watch winger Frank Acheampong, according to Voetbalnieuws.be.

The Belgian website says the Magpies have been monitoring the Ghanaian for a long time but they had to watch the 22 year old play out of position at left back yesterday in the 2-0 win over Genk. They may have still been impressed by the player’s performance though as he helped his side keep a clean sheet in the away victory.

Newcastle signed one player from Belgium football in Matz Sels this summer, while they have a history of taking players from the Jupiler Pro League with Aleksandar Mitrovic and Chancel Mbemba both signing from Anderlecht at the beginning of last season.

Acheampong has been at Anderlecht since joining initially on loan from Thai Premier League side Buriram United in January 2013 before he signed permanently in April 2013 for a fee believed to be €1million.
