Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez has suggested that striker Adam Armstrong may depart on loan this summer in order to get more football.

The 21 year old performed well on loan at Coventry City last season and it led many to urge that the youngster should be recalled so he could be involved in first team football at St James’ Park but Benitez hinted that another spell away from Tyneside maybe on the cards when asked about the player’s future. He told BBC Radio Newcastle (quotes via the Evening Chronicle)

“Maybe he will start with us. He is training well and he is doing fine. We don’t know what will happen, he is a young player who has the potential but I want to be sure to do my best for the team and the best for players.”

It could be interpreted a number of ways when he says that he want what is best for the team and the players, but with the club already fully stocked on strikers with Dwight Gayle, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ayoze Perez, and to a much lesser extent Emmanuel Riviere and Yoan Gouffran are vying for a place, the likelihood of Armstrong getting any game time is unlikely. Especially if you take into account that Newcastle are believed to be pursuing another striker. In that circumstance, what’s best for the player would be another loan deal.
