Newcastle are weighing up a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers central midfielder Conor Coady, according to talkSPORT. It is believed that the Magpies are looking for signings to strengthen the middle of the park and the radio station believes that Rafa Benitez’s side, alongside Sheffield Wednesday and Queens Park Rangers, are interested in Coady.

The 23 year old has not been part of Wolves manager Kenny Jackett preseason training plans despite playing 39 times last season. The arrival of new owners at Wolves, the Chinese consortium Fosun International, means the Championship club are looking to make improvements to the squad and it looks like Coady won’t be part of the new era at Molineux.

Benitez managed Coady when he was Liverpool manager, and although the midfielder never fulfilled his promise of becoming the “next Steven Gerrard” as many on Merseyside had hoped, he has made a name for himself at both Huddersfield and Wolves, and could be seen as a useful addition to Newcastle’s midfield.
