Newcastle United striker Haris Vuckic has told the Evening Chronicle that Rafa Benitez has made it clear to him that he is not in the club’s plans for the new season.

The 23 year old is however determined to force his way into the Spaniard’s first team squad:

“Yes – at the moment I’m not in his plans. But hopefully with my games I can show him that I can at least deserve a chance and that he can try me in different positions. Hopefully he will do that.”

The Slovenian international has spent the best part of the last four seasons out on loan at various clubs including Cardiff City, Rotherham United, Rangers and Wigan Athletic. He had a season long loan spell at the Latics last season making 17 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals.

Competition up front at Newcastle is fierce despite the departure of Papiss Cisse to China. Manager Rafa Benitez has Dwight Gayle, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Ayoze Perez and Adam Armstrong all available to him in the first team squad, in addition to Emmanuel Riviere and Yoan Gouffran who are expected to depart St James’ Park this summer.
