Disgraceful Arsenal star embarrasses himself against Newcastle

Francis CoquelinReferee Andre Marriner didn’t cover himself in much glory in the Premier League encounter between Newcastle United and Arsenal at St James’ Park yesterday, but he wasn’t helped by Arsene Wenger’s players, most notably Francis Coquelin.

In addition to the red card given to Aleksandar Mitrović, Marriner handed out seven yellow cards during the course of the game, with six of those going to Newcastle players, including recent signing Florian Thauvin.

You could argue that the Frenchman deserved a yellow card for his rash tackle, but the behaviour from his compatriot was nothing short of embarrassing and if he watched the below back Coquelin should be truly ashamed…

It’s these sort of antics that make referees jobs so difficult and as if the jump from the floor wasn’t enough, he decided to throw in a few rolls afterwards for good measure.

This from the player that Wenger is touting as the defensive lynchpin in this midfield, I’m not sure you’d ever see Patrick Vieira acting like that!

no mention of the poor tackling by your f*****g animals? i understand you resent living in a sh*****e and would prefer to live in the south, but try to come up with something relevant you half wit. try getting a job writing for the exchange and mart dummy

    • Ric Fleur says:

Why would we want to live in the South with all your gangs of children kniving each other, your looting riots and infernos, and your ludicrous expense?

No, we’re quite happy up here, thanks. Then again, the attitude of London says it all. The capital gets all of the budget and you keep everything for yourselves.

You also don’t seem to see the stupidity of your comment about Newcastle’s ‘physical’ tackling, on a post with video evidence showing a tackle that doesn’t even connect.

You’re regurgitating the nonsense Wenger came out with, if he hadn’t complained about Newcastle being physical, you wouldn’t even think to say what you are here. -1 for original thinking then, yeah?

It’s also not particularly wise to slam someone’s intelligence when you can’t even make the effort to type.

      Go cry about Chelsea somewhere.

      • chopper4001 says:

Lets be honest here, this video “evidence” doesn’t actually show the tackle properly. It doesn’t show that Coq’s foot/ankle gets stuck in the turf, as Thauvin’s studs come down on his foot. This was also shortly after he’s taken Mitrovic’s studs down his shin.

Tom Jones is just trolling Arsenal fans. Newcastle’s tackling was atrocious in the first 30 minutes and any right thinking football fan can see it. The home support can bay as much as they like but when they’ve watched it back this morning they can’t have any complaints.

  • SY4 says:

Give it a rest – your team came out to kick and foul us.
Coq got kicked to bits by every one of your midfielders – he deserved a medal for not retaliating
You should have had 2 if not 3 sent off.
We didn’t surround the ref etc which is pretty good and your manager was a joke in his interview after the game. Credit to the home support though.

  • John says:

Either you wrote this when you were totally zonked on some sort of legal or illegal substance, or you really do need to get to Specsavers as soon as you can. I understand that webpages devoted to one club can sometimes be a bit biased, but your effort is really pathetic. Get a life.

  • Bob says:

Totally agree. He should be ashamed of himself. Next time someone flies in, studs showing, at high velocity he should take it like a man. I mean surely a broken leg is better than being berated by a Newcastel fan for leaping out of the way. The fact he’s clipped is just rewards for leaping up, even it it happened the other way round. Shame on you Coq. Shame on you. Learn your lesson and take the Eduardo style leg brake like a man.

    • Ross says:

During the game I watched in disbelief as most of the stadium clapped and cheered when a painful tackle went in, never experienced anything like it before. The guy got studs into his standing foot at the end of the tackle.. Perhaps he shouldn’t have rolled about but perhaps the tackle shouldn’t have been made in the first place! Some bitterness going around!

    • Amin says:

Lol! Bob you are crazy! I really enjoyed reading that.

  • Ben says:

that tackle is enough to end a player’s career, could you just imagine what would have happened if Coquelin had not jumped so high to avoid the two-foot slide put up by Aleksandar Mitrović? He deserved to be sent off and as for the writer of this, you are hereby sentenced to THREE YEARS of watching football without writing anything.

  • RP7 says:

You are having a giraffe ain’t ya !!!! I suggest you watch the game again and you will see that Le Coq was physically assaulted on at least two occasions and the red card was well deserved. I notice that you don’t mention the nail on pen that we were denied. Even Robbie Savage agreed that every card you got was well deserved. Move on and start to worry about the long winter ahead of you

    • porciestreet says:

And you hang on every word that that numty savage comes out with, braindead little git. That tells me all there is to know about Gooners…Yr full of 5h!t.

  • Tobi says:

I see you conveniently forgot the shocking penalty decision in your warped analysis?

  • Peter Levinger says:

First I admired your teams sprit and determination when playing with 10 men , but don’t try and justify aggressive and foul tackling. How can 3 over the top of the ball ankle stamps, 2 on Coquelin and one on Monreal be dismissed as “harsh” “not intentional” and “without malice” all words used by your Manager (who is definitely demeaning himself by trying to justify these tackles). Finally can anyone deny a clear pen on Bellerin

  • TOONARMYELITE says:

ya arsenal team are a bunch of wimps the ref won the game for yas not your players even then playing 75 mins against 10 men it took an own goal for yous to win.yous have not got a pray at wining the title and i would be ashamed if our players fell down at the slightest sign of a breeze

    • AlfyB says:

So toonarmylite, your opinion of Arsenals chances are good are they? I would suggest that your team; if they can be called that, should be renamed Neanderthal United. As for the wally with the brolly, you get what you deserve in life and for NUFC it’s the same or worse than last year. Still at least he didn’t try and speak with a Dutch accent as he did before. The only good thing about your club is that the owner is a southerner, so at least the undrecover plant is working.

      • Kevin Weaver says:

Don’t forget, the Wally with the Brolly, turned down Newcastle to stay with Derby! It was only after they kicked him out for being so useless, he took the job no one else wanted.

    • Kevin Weaver says:

Got more chance of winning the League than you chaps, whyay! When was the last time you chaps picked up any silverware? And beating Sunderland doesn’t count.

    • Panther says:

Parking the bus from the 1st minute in a home game is pathetic, you though you’d get away with it two game in a row (Man Utd). First of all AFC were denied a clear penalty and Mitrovic deserved his red card, you know f–k all about football if you think Newcastle were hard done by. Chech didn’t even touch the ball, your team is a joke and I wouldn’t be surprised if Newcastle are fighting relegation with the DROSS I’ve seen from them.

  • squiggle says:

Leaving aside the north/south nonsense, I genuinely don’t see how you can say that Coquelin should be embarrassed by of what happens in that clip. He jumps to avoid the sliding Thauvin. That’s it.

    • porciestreet says:

The tw4t went down holding his ankle and clearly hadn’t been touched …Get yr eyes tested sonny boy.

      • Panther says:

Newcastle players were deliberately fouling from the start of the game & AFC were denied a clear pen before that idiot Mitrovic, tried to injure Coquelin.

  • Dan says:

This is the most biase article I have ever read! I’m a Southampton fan and watched the game yesterday and I thought the ref got all his decisions correct and Newcastle played well with 10 men! I don’t agree with article at all and it’s not Newcastle players it comes from the manager the Wally with the brolly! Stuck in the dark ages of football and told u skillful creative players to kick arsenal and it didn’t work! Simple!

  • Phil2529 says:

This isn’t the first time Wenger has complained about teams being overly physical. No other managers make similar accusations against their teams. Arsenal do have a soft underbelly and, in recent years, many teams exploit this.
I seem to remember many years ago Arsenal employing similar physical tactics with Petit and Vieira in the middle, yet Wenger deemed it fair and acceptable then.

  • eezzee says:

newcastle were an absolute disgrace. If those challenges happened off the pitch people would go to jail. As for arsenal not having a prayer of winning the title i seem to recall your mob celebrating survival last season which is something i seriously doubt you will achieve this season

    • stuart says:

Ha I would hope you don’t tackle anyone in public, I think tackle people in public is an alarming suggestion. Turn you piont to any sport makes it sound evermore absurd. I never want to good to were u live it sound really abusing

  • Simon says:

Ref was spot on throughout the match, Newcastle couldnt cope with Arsenal and kicked them instead of playing football. Sour grapes.

  • jw1 says:

    NothingButCrap.com

    Ryan Shawcross called.
Said he saw nothing wrong either.

    jw1

  • Naz says:

    Lol.

Your approach was to rough em up. It didnt work. Sour grapes much?

    Sports direct united.

  • Mick says:

He’s trying to avoid a dangerous tackle you fool!

    • Reality Check says:

No, actually the clip, provided as a proof doesn’t show the conact that Florian made from behind while twisting Coqs foot. Could’ve been a major ankle injury.
The author should be ashamed for misleading readers.

  • dan says:

    What publication is this? Viz?

  • Jack says:

What do you reckon happens to his ankle then if he doesn’t jump?

    Have a think.

  • stuart says:

Well you can trust good fans like the gunners n the magpies to be animated about things, in fairness the as a nufc fan I equally felt agreaved by the decision as it turn what should have been a good match into a crap one were Newcastle kicked the hell out of u n u jumped all over the place. Not a good showing from Eva side really. But as a full time nufc n a part time Arsenal fan. As i remember how good they both were n I’m from the north and have to support Newcastle. Having lived in both places n liked living in both places dont think its fair digging at wet someone resides. You don’t like my spell tuth I dont pre-test to be an intellectual so insult aaway
