Yoan GouffranNewcastle United Yoan Gouffran is set to leave Newcastle United within the next 48 hours, with Hull City leading the race to sign the £4.2 million Frenchman ahead of Championship rivals Middlesbrough and Derby County according to the Sunday Mirror.

With an influx of quality into the Newcastle midfield this summer in the form of Georginio Wijnaldum and Florian Thauvin, the much-maligned Gouffran has been deemed surplus to requirements by Magpies manager Steve McClaren.

Signed from Bordeaux in January 2013 for a fee of just £500,000, Newcastle are set to receive more than eight times that amount, which represents a decent bit of business for a player they’re looking to offload.

Despite having played over 80 times in the Premier League and notching 11 goals, Gouffran has always been subject to criticism from Newcastle fans and his inclusion in teams has been seen to stop more exciting players from making it into the starting eleven.

Since scoring in five consecutive games at St James’ Park at the back end of 2013, the Frenchman has failed to find his shooting boots and despite being a hard working player, he offers little going forward.

Having said that, the 29-year-old could do very well in the Championship and it is no surprise that the trio of Hull City, Middlesbrough and Derby County are all fighting for his signature, being no stranger to Steve Bruce having netted at the KC Stadium last season.
