Moussa SowNewcastle United have been heavily linked with a loan move for Chelsea striker Demba Ba over the last couple of days, but according to the Turkish press, the Magpies are interested in another of Papiss Cisse’s compatriots – Fenerbahce striker Moussa Sow.

It’s often the case that Newcastle are linked with a whole host of players and then they go and sign someone completely out of the blue, well this could be the case with Moussa Sow.

Sow, who started both legs of the Champions League qualifying tie with Arsenal, was left out of the Fernerbahce squad for their league match against Sivasspor, prompting questions of why that was the case.

There are reports that it may have been due to the Turkish side’s quota of foreign players, but there are also rumours that Newcastle have lodged a 12 million Euro bid for the striker.

Sow is thought to have a 17 million Euro release clause, a figure that Newcastle wouldn’t even think about entertaining, but perhaps a £10m bid is not out of the question.

The 27-year-old is also thought to be being tracked by fellow Premier League club Stoke City and he has a very impressive scoring record over the past couple of years.

Sow scored 31 in 54 Ligue 1 games for Lille, before signing for Fenerbahce at the start of 2010 for a fee of 10 million Euros.

Since then, Sow has netted 22 times in 43 appearances and when you add that to his international record for Senegal, which is 9 goals in 23 caps, he has some very impressive numbers.

He has even played for the French youth teams alongside current Newcastle forward Yoan Gouffran, so the French-born player would fit in well with the Gallic contingent on Tyneside as well as his fellow Senegal striker partner Cisse.

Could Moussa Sow prove to be a shock deadline day swoop for Newcastle?

  • Joe says:

    Wayne you tit

Why is wayne a tit. Is it because he is talking the truth and you dont like it??? He is spot on with that comment and I have said it time and time before, all of our summer signings were made in january to keep us up. Most ov them at a higher price due to contracts so there is no way ashley will spend any more. Especially as he is trying to claw in as much as he can before ge sells up

      • Double Carpet says:

He’s a tit because he put “FACT” at the end of his post. It’s not a fact, it’s an opinion. He may end up being right, but claiming a FACT in an attempt to win the argument is both infantile and irritating.

And by the way, it’s of not ov, and who is “ge”? And now I’m being irritating.

For the last 2 summer windows we have ‘tracked’ strikers throughout and got no one. The feeling i’ve got today of waiting to see who we sign is all too familiar and we have been left dissapointed.

I agree with Wayne we will sign no one and cabaye will leave for around 13m imo at the last minute, and pardew will start with the broken record of ‘we tried to get one over the line but its hard’

Hope im wrong like lol but I doubt it

So double carpet clearly has nothing to add to this conversation. He is clearly an English teacher. Anyway back to footbal I think the first post hits the nail on the head. Dont expect much before tomorrow but I do see gomis coming in January

McCarthy & Ince would do for now, get gomis in january. Maybe by January the whole team has settled in, remy dosnt get custody or other & i can see that as a good platform to work off.
