gignac and gomisNewcastle United will be looking to fork out £15 million for French pair Bafetimbi Gomis and Andre-Pierre Gignac in the coming days according to the Mirror.

The Magpies were desperately short of firepower last season and with the future of number nine Papiss Cisse up in the air, Alan Pardew’s number one priority in the summer transfer market is to bring in a striker or two. If he doesn’t manage to achieve this then you’d be in your interest to click here to start betting on-line and predict that Newcastle will have a poor season.

All things seem to be pointing to Gomis being the first arrival on Tyneside, with both club and player seemingly keen to make the deal happen.

The 27-year-old has been a long-term target for Newcastle and a move to join up with the French legion is said to be his preferred option.

Pardew has had this to say on the matter: “The Lyon president has come out and said we’re involved with Gomis – and we are. Bafetimbi is a player we think could do very well for us”.

The French international scored 20 goals in 40 appearances for Lyon last season and could be available for just £5m as he only has one year left on his contract.

Fellow Frenchman Gignac, who’s also 27 and currently plies his trade for Marseille in Ligue 1, had a similarly profitable 2012/13 season, as he found the back of the net 18 times.

His desire to join Newcastle is rumoured not to be as strong as his compatriot’s and his signature would cost the Magpies around twice as much.

Marseille are thought to have already received a £10m from Newcastle for their striker and are keen to cash in, having offered Gignac to a number of clubs.

Can Alan Pardew kick-start Newcastle’s summer transfer activity with a £15m double swoop?
