Newcastle could put Man City star out of his misery

Manchester City winger Adam JohnsonManchester City winger Adam Johnson is out in the cold at the Etihad Stadium, but could Newcastle United be the side to put him out of his misery in Manchester and take him back to the north-east to give him some more playing time?

Having made their first major signing of the summer today in the form of defensive midfielder Vurnon Anita, who was brought in from Ajax, Newcastle and Alan Pardew will be looking to make further additions before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.

A striker, a centre back and a full back will be Pardew’s priorities, but if a player of the calibre of Adam Johnson was to become available at the right price then he would be hard to ignore.

Born in Sunderland, 25-year-old Johnson joined Manchester City at the start of 2010 after spending the rest of his career in the north-east with Middlesbrough, but it would be fair to say that he hasn’t exactly hit it off with City.

While he may have a Premier League winners’ medal in his back pocket, starts have been at a premium for the tricky winger over the past two seasons, especially for a player of his ability.

It is evident that he hasn’t lost that ability, his performance for England against Italy last night proved that, and he would still have plenty to offer a top Premier League side.

It is being speculated that Everton have been given first refusal on a loan move, but if Johnson did want to move back to the north-east, as has previously been reported, then Newcastle could do worse than pick him up.

If opinions on Twitter are anything to go by, then he’d be a major hit with the Toon Army, but do Newcastle need another winger? Maybe there are more pressing priorities right now.

I’d love to take Johnson and Guidetti from Man City, but I don’t believe that either will happen unfortunately.
I do hope that Johnson leaves Man City tho, he’s a cracking player and should be playing week in week out and be one of the first names on the England team sheet in my opinion.

That’s because you don’t see him ‘week in week out’ and don’t understand how one dimensional he is. He is immensely talented but has poor concentration and seems lazy. His best value comes when he is brought on with 20/25 mins to go and injects pace a directness, troubles tired defenders and often scores fine goals.
He simply doesn’t demand a start ahead of the likes of Milner or Nasri.

About that, Jonhson has always claimed he’s a toon fan since his childhood and the entertainers ! Cracking player, i’d love to see him wearing the stripes, but Ben Arfa is the same type of left footed, tricky right winger…

Be good to get him. If only we didn’t let him leave in 1999 when he was on our books

  • Ash says:

it won’t happen, just like every transfer suggestion you make on here

I would also love to see Johnson in Toon. Boyhood toon fan, tricky winger and has a point to prove. Jonas isnt a winger any more, he doesnt have the energy. If Southampton have 11.5mill to spend on a winger then so shoudl we… but we continue to improve financally and maybe a player we could go for once Xisco is off the books!!

Nothing but a rumor along with Toivonen, both transfers that will definitely not happen. We’re after one more player and I’m confident that it will be a defender although I would love to see AJ back home

As a city fan I wouldn’t be that bothered to lose him, he has all the attributes to be a good player but lacks the attitude to fulfil his potential, he NEVER tracks back and if he doesn’t have the ball he doesn’t push himself to get it or get in the game, he has been given starts after good substitute appearances but then shows a total lack of enthusiasm when he’s in the team. I know it’s easy to say he doesn’t get in the team because city have other good players in the team but if he changed his attitude he could make the number 11 shirt his own.
