Newcastle United are being linked with Wigan forward Victor Moses, who is refusing to sign a new contract with the relegation-threatened club, but the Magpies will face competition for his signature from Sunderland and Fulham according to the People.

Born in Nigeria, 21-year-old Moses came to England when he was 11 and represented England at youth levels all the way up to the England U21, but decided to play for the Nigerian National Team, making his debut for the Super Eagles earlier this year.

Moses actually started his club career at another team nicknamed the Eagles, Crystal Palace, where he featured for the south London club’s academy after being picked up by local scouts.

Much like current Palace winger Wilfried Zaha is currently doing, Moses greatly impressed in the Championship and his performances persuaded Wigan to fork out £2.5 million in the 2010 January transfer window.

It hasn’t quite happened for Moses at Wigan, although this season he has featured more heavily for the Latics and bagged a handful of goals, most recently in Wigan’s 2-0 victory over Stoke last week at the DW Stadium.

With Wigan perennial Premier League strugglers, Moses is reported to be set to turn down a £20,000 offer of a new contract, which is sure to see Newcastle, Sunderland and Fulham circling.

Moses would certainly bring plenty of pace to the Newcastle squad, and with him two years further down the line than Zaha, would he be more likely to have a potential say in Newcastle’s starting eleven straight away?

Newcastle and Alan Pardew could certainly take advantage of Moses’ contract situation and the Toon’s contact attacking style of recent weeks would be a perfect fit for Victor.

And who would he replace in the staring 11 for the Toon???

Yes we need another striker but I think you’ll find he’s more likely to go to a club who can offer him first team footy, not a club like the Toon who already have 3 fantastic strikiing options playing every game… plus we have Best to come back & Strola as back up for now, with JJ Hooper in the reserves ready to claim a place in the 1st team soon…. none starter for me, tho I wouldn’t say no if he was happy to warm the bench 🙂
