Simmo may be forced to eat his words about the Bosnian Alan Shearer

Joey Barton has been getting himself into trouble on Twitter in recent weeks and now his Newcastle teammate Danny Simpson has gone down the same road, making comments about Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko. The man I always refer to as the Bosnian Alan Shearer due to a scouting report on him before he moved to Manchester, had something of a difficult start to life in the Premier League. However, now the £27 million man is making his mark in English football and what Simpson said on Twitter last week can only be described as ill-timed.

Just in case you missed it, Danny Simpson said “Dzeko is absolute pony! #27mil are city serious”. That obviously resulted in the Newcastle defender getting a lot of Tweets in response that begged to differ. Simmo responded by saying “Ppl need 2 relax, my opinion is 27mil is 2 much for him! End of the matter”. These Tweets were posted prior to Manchester City thrashing Swansea 4-0, a match Dzeko duly scored in, and the Bosnian also found the net earlier today against Bolton to make it 4 goals for him in 4 Premier League games.

While £27m may be a lot for the striker, it seems pretty naïve for Simpson to be conducting Man City’s team talks for them. Now when Newcastle travel to the Etihad Stadium on the 19th of November, you can bet one or two of Dzeko’s teammates might just give him a gentle reminder as to what he said. It’s not as if City need any further encouragement either, given the start they’ve made to this season and the fact that they completed the double over the Magpies in the last Premier League campaign.

Simpson’s comments might have something to do with him being an ex-Manchester United player, as there’s no love lost between the Manchester neighbours. That doesn’t mean he should be slating players and making comments that might just come back to haunt him. Just in case you wondered, he had this to say about Sergio Aguero “Aguero #deecent”. If I was you I’d be putting a bit of money on the ‘pony’ scoring against Newcastle come November.

Simpson is obviously a naive little fellow, still hoping that old rednose will sign him back one day. Unfortunately old rednose saw exactly what Simpson has cruelly exposed himself to now: That he neither has any knowledge of the game of football (Players take time to settle, and should therefore not be described as “pony” after half a season) and that Simpson obviously makes very poor and ill-timed decisions. Old rednose obviously thought he did the right thing to get rid, and we should therefore enjoy the little man trying to remain in the spotlight. Don’t be angry at him, feel sorry for him!
