With silly season now upon us, Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United side are always likely to be linked with all sorts of players from up and down the country.
Perhaps the strangest name touted as a potential target for the Magpies thus far has been Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend. Not that he wouldn’t fit in, but the 25-year-old jumped ship from the Toon Army following their relegation back in May.
Still, there’s little doubt the England international would be a significant improvement on the options Benitez currently has in wide areas. Upon his arrival from Tottenham a year ago now, he put in some big performances amid the Magpies’ battle to beat the drop, endearing himself to a raft of fans along the way.
