Former Newcastle defender Darren Peacock believes Magpies boss Rafa Benitez has managed a remarkable turnaround at the club, saying that there is huge difference between the side he managed last season compared to this campaign.
Peacock believes that now Benitez has removed the deadwood in the squad, and established a core group of players he can rely on, it will only be a matter of time before he fine tunes the squad to get more consistent results. He told the Evening Chronicle:
“There were players that had their feet under the table when he arrived but he’s changed all of that and that’s what needed to be done – it’s two totally different teams.”
“The Wolves game in the league showed that things can change of course, and it’s just about getting that rotation right, which he’ll do, but I am confident of that.”
Peacock also went on to mention that the scenes at the end of the dramatic 4-3 over Norwich City last week demonstrated that the link between the players and the fans had been re-established to some degree. No doubt with the fans onside and a highly capable manager at the helm, Newcastle are all set to challenge for promotion and return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
