Eddie Howe has confirmed Callum Wilson is available following the striker’s World Cup duty with England as domestic football returns.

The 30-year-old’s fitness has been the one disappointment of his time on Tyneside thus far, effectively missing a whole season through injury following a £20m move from Tuesday’s opposition, Bournemouth, in 2020.

Wilson suffered a slight knock while away in Qatar and did not feature in Saturday’s friendly win against Rayo Vallecano despite the fact international teammates Nick Pope and Kieran Trippier did appear.

The latter two will likely play at St James’ Park as Newcastle look to make it to the next round of the Carabao Cup. Alexander Isak remains injured alongside compatriot Emil Krafth, while Howe has also revealed Bruno Guimaraes is available for selection following Brazil’s disappointing World Cup exit.

Allan Saint-Maximin, meanwhile, is said to be suffering with a slight injury.

Almost a month after the win over Chelsea, it’s time to get back to business.

Newcastle United predicted XI: Pope; Trippier, Burn, Botman, Targett; Shelvey, Willock, Joelinton; Almiron, Wood, Murphy

Injured: Saint-Maximin, Krafth, Isak
