Eddie Howe hailed the “outstanding” Bruno Guimaraes as “top quality in every aspect” following the Brazilian’s starring role on Saturday.
What’s the latest Newcastle United news?
Howe’s side ran out 5-1 winners over Brentford, taking their tally up to nine goals scored in two games and truly kickstarting their Premier League season
The result takes Newcastle up to fifth as things stand and makes the early season frustration seem like a thing of the past. Guimaraes, who had suffered with injuries at the start of the campaign, scored twice in the big victory, including a stunning second goal to restore Newcastle’s two-goal lead after Ivan Toney’s penalty.
Liberated in a box-to-box role with Sean Longstaff sitting deeper, Guimaraes got back to his very best in a fantastic atmosphere at St James’ Park.
Jacob Murphy and Miguel Almiron were also on the scoresheet, while Brentford also put their own net on a miserable day for Thomas Frank’s side.
What did Howe say of Guimaraes?
Speaking to Sky Sports (via BBC Sport’s LIVE blog), Howe said: “We were pleased with today. It as a really tough game and we knew they would make it difficult for us. We had a slow start but responded to that with the first goal and that changed it for us.
“Bruno [Guimaraes] is top quality in every aspect, his personality and performances on the pitch. He was outstanding today.
“We have had a number of injuries, we have managed to ride that storm. Hopefully a very good day for us.”
