Allan Saint-Maximin has taken to Twitter to express his delight at being included in Alan Shearer’s Premier League team of the week.
The Newcastle United winger was given the nod from the Toon legend alongside manager Steve Bruce after a wholly impressive display in the 3-2 win over West Ham on Saturday.
Writing on his personal account, the Frenchman said: “Wow!
“Alan Shearer put me on his ‘team of the week’.”
He then hash-tagged: “Newcastle legend” and “Feeling grateful”.
OPINION
How could you not love Allan Saint-Maximin? The Frenchman just seems to get Newcastle United, and what it means it to represent the club. In this tweet here, not only is he paying homage to Alan Shearer, but he is also giving fans a real flavour of how grateful he is to pull on the black and white shirt. And you can see it translating into his gameplay too. On Saturday against the Hammers, he managed three shots, a key pass, and five successful dribbles, as per Whoscored. In fact, you could argue that he should have opened his Newcastle account with a couple of gilt-edged opportunities. For now, however, the Toon Army will just be pleased to see him performing with such verve and passion. If he keeps this up, Saint-Maximin could prove to be one of the signings of the season.
