Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin has taken a swipe at Sunderland on Twitter.

The 22-year-old has so far proven to be a hit on Tyneside for his performances on the pitch but his social media activity is also making him a popular player among the Toon Army.

On Monday night, Saint-Maximin hit out at a Sunderland fan saying that he wished he could score against Newcastle’s big local rivals.

However there is the clear problem that the Black Cats are in League One.

Saint-Maximin said, via his personal Twitter account: “I wish I could score my first goal against your club but…”

OPINION

Saint-Maximin has had a brilliant few days. He was electric in the 3-2 win against West Ham on Saturday. Although the Frenchman failed to score his first goal in English football, he still managed to run the Hammers ragged at the London Stadium in what was a man of the match-worthy performance. Since that game he has now taken to aiming digs at Sunderland on Twitter. Newcastle fans already loved the guy but this is just going to make them somehow love him even more. It can’t be long before Saint-Maximin registers his first goal or assist for Newcastle. He has had a tough start to life in England due to a couple of niggling injury issues but has finally gotten over them to become a regular starter in Steve Bruce’s side. On another day, he would have scored a couple against West Ham but his finishing was not quite at it’s best at the weekend.
