OPINION
Jamal Lascelles has been ruled out of action for the rest of 2019, according to Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder – and that has sparked a mixed response from Newcastle United supporters on social media. Lascelles was forced off in the 2-1 win against Bournemouth on Saturday after colliding with goalkeeper Martin Dubravka and it is understood that he has suffered knee ligament damage and is unlikely to feature for the Magpies until early next year. Some Newcastle fans are gutted with Lascelles’ blow while others are suggesting that it is a “blessing in disguise”. Sure, Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez are playing well at the moment while Florian Lejeune is close to being back to full fitness. However Lascelles is the club captain and is so under-rated by these supporters who are saying that it is good news that he will be out of action until January. No one should be happy to see any of their players injured. Newcastle fans will realise how much they need Lascelles while he is out.

Lascelles being out a while could be a blessing in disguise #NUFC

Even though its a shame Lascelles is out for up to 3 months, im very intrigued to see a Lejeune, Fernandez and Schar back 3 pairing. In my opinion our 3 best centre backs. #NUFC

Regardless of our wealthy options at Centre half, losing Lascelles is a blow. There’s other of our defenders that have more ‘footballing ability’ but his leadership is huge. Hopefully Fede or Clark can replace that leadership at the back and hopefully he will recover soon
