Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has taken to Twitter to bemoan Newcastle United duo Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin’s finishing ability.

Neither player has yet to hit the back of the net for the Toon Army, with both wasting gilt-edged chances in the 2-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday.

And taking to social media after the match, Downie wrote: “This isn’t funny anymore.

“I think Almiron & Saint-Maximin are jinxed.”

OPINION

This is getting a bit ridiculous now, to be fair. Today’s game makes it 22 barren matches for Almiron since he arrived from the MLS, while Saint-Maximin has now amassed eight in a row without finding the back of the net. Both players are getting plenty of opportunities to break their ducks, however, and at this stage, it does feel as if they are a little bit cursed. Today, for example, they had four shots between them, as per Whoscored, with the Frenchman smashing an effort against the crossbar from close range, and his Paraguayan teammate somehow managing to skew one against his colleague when it looked easier to score. You get the feeling that once one of them gets one, the floodgates will open, and that will be a frightening prospect indeed, but at the moment, you don’t know whether to laugh or cry as the drought rumbles on week after week. At the very least, three points for a second consecutive week should appease most fans.
