Allan Saint-Maximin was yet again the star of the show for Newcastle United as they won 2-1 against Bournemouth at St James’ Park on Saturday afternoon.
Steve Bruce’s side strung together consecutive wins for the first time this season courtesy of goals by DeAndre Yedlin and Ciaran Clark, although it could have been a bigger margin of victory for the Magpies had they taken their chances.
Some of those chances fell to Saint-Maximin, who has since taken to his personal Twitter account after the match to say: “That’s the spirit.”
Saint-Maximin supplied his first assist in English football against the Cherries and is without doubt one of the most popular men on Tyneside at the moment.
OPINION
Saint-Maximin has been brilliant for Newcastle in the last couple of weeks and it is great to see him finally involved in a goal by supplying an assist. However the Frenchman should be on the scoresheet for Newcastle as well by now because he has had chances galore against West Ham and Bournemouth yet failed to stick the ball past either Roberto or Aaron Ramsdale. It is something for Saint-Maximin to work on over the international break because he seems to be able to have no problem in doing the hard bit. He can beat defenders, get into good positions, carry the ball into the penalty area and create good opportunities for himself. But he just lets himself down a bit when it comes to his shooting and goalkeepers have not exactly had to work hard to stop him from scoring. Newcastle play against Aston Villa after the international break. Let’s hope that he can get a goal in the West Midlands.
