It will be hard for Newcastle United fans to find a player that has frustrated them more than Miguel Almiron in the recent future.

The Paraguayan international arrived for a club-record fee at the time when he joined in January, and the Magpies’ fans will have been dreaming of the effect he could have on the club in the final third.

Pass forward almost a year, and Almiron has yet to be involved in a single goal in the Premier League despite numerous chances to score or assist one.

Despite those frustrations, the 25-year-old has found a massive fan in the shape of Steve Bruce, with his manager finding it hard not to shower praise on the South American at any given opportunity.

Bruce recently gushed about Almiron and admitted that he was confident he will be able to break his duck sooner rather than later in the black and white shirt.

“I’ve never seen anyone in 20 years cover the distance or play with the intensity that he does. His running stats are incredible – as big as I’ve seen for any player. He’s multi-talented, I’m confident it’ll happen for him,” said Bruce, as quoted by Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie on his personal Twitter account on Thursday.

Bruce’s recent comments surely prove that Almiron is guaranteed a start alongside Joelinton, with his first opportunity to find the back of the net coming against Aston Villa on Monday.

The 25-year-old will need to improve drastically after only averaging 0.6 key passes per game according to WhoScored, despite playing in a role designed for him to create opportunities.

His recent goal against Bulgaria in the international friendly during the break could fill him with confidence going into the game at Villa Park, with Bruce looking set to start him once again despite all of these frustrations.
