There’s no doubt that Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron has failed to fulfil the potential he showed in America that convinced the Magpies to splash out on him last January.

Perhaps the Paraguay international is suffering from a lack of confidence, or possibly it’s a case of there not being enough competition for places at St James’ Park to keep him motivated.

Whatever it is, something’s not right. It’s no surprise, then, to learn that Steve Bruce and co. are looking to bring in more wing help come the January transfer window.

Specifically Jarrod Bowen. The Chronicle reported on Saturday that the Hull City star has emerged as one of recruitment guru Steve Nickson’s primary January transfer targets.

Bowen could be the answer to Almiron’s struggles. The 22-year-old could give the South American the rocket up the backside that he clearly needs, motivating him into providing better performances while being a terrific signing in terms of his own ability, as well.

The statistics show that the Englishman has been far better than Almiron this season, albeit a level below. He is more clinical, more explosive and seemingly more willing to simply have a go.

As per WhoScored.com, Bowen has scored four league goals to Almiron’s none, with two assists to the Newcastle man’s zero. He’s also averaging more than double Almiron’s shots and key passes per game. Bowen has 3.3 and 1.3 to Almiron’s 1.4 and 0.4 respectively.

He’s also embarking on double the dribbles that the 25-year-old is, while Bowen’s average WhoScored rating per game of 7.16 is way ahead of Almiron’s 6.23.

With that said, Newcastle must go all out for the Tigers winger come the winter transfer window. He is exactly what both Bruce’s team, and Almiron, need.
