OPINION
Miguel Almiron’s wait for a first goal, or assist, for Newcastle United continued on Sunday when he fired a blank against Manchester United. Although it was a superb 1-0 win for the Magpies at St James’ Park, Almiron’s performance at times was enough for many fans on Twitter to air their concerns – with one even saying that the club should “cut their losses” on Rafa Benitez’s January signing. Almiron failed to complete a single dribble in the match, according to stats by WhoScored, while summer signing Allan Saint-Maximin managed four and even centre-back Fabian Schar did two. Almiron was also the only non-defensive player to fail to complete a key pass for Newcastle. It really isn’t good enough and luckily most people will forget about how poorly he played because of the result. Maybe it is time for Bruce to think about dropping the Paraguay international or at least playing him in a different role because his performances this season have been nothing short of woeful.
