OPINION
It seems as though Steve Bruce has plans to use Dwight Gayle in his Newcastle United side this season after the striker returned from injury with a cameo appearance against Chelsea last week. Speaking in his press conference today (Friday), as quoted by Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, Bruce said that it’s “nice to finally have” Gayle available and that he is set to feature in Sunday’s clash against Wolves at St James’ Park. Gayle’s goalscoring record in the Premier League is not great with just 21 goals in 100 top-flight outings – and that has led to a lot of concerns from a section of Newcastle fans on Twitter. Joelinton has struggled to hit the target so far for the Magpies with him scoring just once since his club-record switch from Hoffenheim in the summer. Gayle is a lot more used to playing in the Premier League than Joelinton but his impressive record on loan at West Brom last term is proving to be irrelevant among concerned supporters. Who can blame them though?
Dwight Gayle set to feature against Wolves on Sunday. Steve Bruce: “I really like Dwight as a player, I’ve tried – and failed – to sign him three times so it’s nice to finally have him.” #NUFC

NothingButNewcastle has rounded up some of the best tweets below:
so we are relying on a player Benitez signed to get us out of the championship 3 years ago, then tried to move on following promotion? Happy for him and all that, but really highlights how we have failed to progress as a team.

Failed and Steve Bruce in a sentence is quite a regular occurrence
