OPINION
There’s no doubt that this was yet another dispiriting afternoon’s work from Newcastle United striker Joelinton. The Brazilian once again led the line in the team’s 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, but never once threatened to add to the one goal he has scored for the Magpies since joining the club for a record fee in the summer. It’s difficult to be too harsh on the young man, because he is always incredibly isolated in head coach Steve Bruce’s current system. There is precious little support to him whenever he gets the ball, although you have to say that he didn’t do a good enough job of holding the ball up either. His ball retention is poor, there’s little arguing with that. The Newcastle supporters have clearly become frustrated with him, with many of them asserting that he doesn’t get involved enough and doesn’t keep the ball well enough. Those are legitimate gripes, but it can’t be much fun playing up front in this Newcastle team at the moment either.
