Newcastle have joined Arsenal in the hunt for Inter Milan forward Degnand Wilfried Gnonto, according to FC Inter News.
The Italian outlet claim on their website that the Serie A club are set to offer the prolific 15-year-old his first professional deal, a contract that would most likely last for three years, in the hope that the Premier League duo will lose interest in the teen.
FC Inter News report that the Italian wonderkid has already been compared to former Magpies’ forward Obafemi Martins, and has been reassured that he still has a big future at the San Siro Stadium.
OPINION
Newcastle will always be on the hunt for some of the brightest young talents in Europe, and Gnonto certainly fits in that category looking at his record in the youth systems in Italy. The Italian youth international has been in scintillating form in front of goal and would be an excellent signing for the Magpies academy if they were able to pull it off. Scoring at a goal a game ratio for the under-18s when looking at his Transfermarkt profile, his early comparisons to Martins will surely leave Newcastle fans salivating. The 15-year-old has already featured for the under-17s at international level and has scored five goals in as many games. Given the fact that he has reportedly been reassured that he has a big future at the San Siro, alongside a potential new deal, it could be an uphill battle to secure his signature alongside Arsenal, with both Premier League clubs surely planning for disappointment.
