Darren Bent has heaped praise on Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka after he signed a new long-term contract with the club.
The Sky Sports pundit claimed that it was a great decision by the Magpies to hand the deal to the shot-stopper, who now has stability at St James’ Park.
Bent admitted it was a much needed positive for Newcastle, and also praised the club for their decision to put such an offer on the table after Dubravka signed a six-year deal in the North East.
“Good news for himself as well,” he told Football Insider.
“A bit of stability, a lot of stability which is good, six years, he’s done well since he’s been there.
“That’s a real positive for somewhere like Newcastle at the minute. I like that, it’s good for the boy, it’s good for Newcastle United Football Club, a bit of stability, now it’s about concentrating on matters on the pitch and getting it right.”
The Slovakian has been ever-present for the club since arriving in 2018 and has started 59 consecutive games for the Magpies.
Bent is spot on with his verdict of the new deal for Dubravka, and Newcastle will surely be delighted that they have managed to secure the future of one of their most experienced players. The Slovakian international has been nothing short of exemplary during his time at the club, and no one can doubt the fact that without him, they would be in a much worst position at this moment in time. You only have to look at his performance against Chelsea on Saturday to prove his worth, making eight saves to keep Frank Lampard’s side out before eventually conceding the winner on an afternoon where it could have been much worse than the 1-0 result [BBC]. Bruce will be keen to continue securing the future of top talent at the club, and should he be able to do that relatively quick there will be a real buzz around the training ground, something that could really push his side on to succeed in the Premier League this season.
