As time ticks on, it seems to become more and more unlikely that Newcastle United fans will ever get to see Mike Ashley leave their club.
The controversial owner has been in charge at St James’ Park for what seems like forever, and numerous potential investors have come and gone with their effort to take the reigns.
Ashley’s time at the top has come with trouble most of the time, and his decision making hasn’t exactly been the best since he took over in the North East.
Newcastle have broken their transfer record twice this year, which sounds great, but when you consider it was a record that had stood since 2005 when Michael Owen arrived, it is hard to put a positive spin on his time at the club.
It has looked positive recently, with a couple of different investors potentially interested in completing a takeover, such as the Bin Zayed Group who had reportedly agreed a £350million move for the Magpies [The Sun].
That didn’t work out and was followed by Peter Kenyon teaming up with GACP Sports for a £300million takeover approach [Daily Mail], something which is still in the air.
Newcastle fans will surely be crossing their fingers that Kenyon and his partners will finally be able to get a deal done and finalise a move which would see Ashley leave the club.
A recent report from the Shields Gazette has revealed that Ashley remains sceptical on whether or not Kenyon can raise the cash needed in order to complete a takeover.
Initial concerns from Ashley could lead to problems at St James’ Park and could highlight that the grass might not be greener on the other side.
Newcastle need any new potential owners to be ready to splash the cash and take them forward, something based on these concerns, Kenyon might not be able to provide.
Based on that, Newcastle fans should be careful what they wish for this season, and realise that Kenyon might not be the answer right now.
