Isaac Hayden has revealed that the team spirit at Newcastle United is massive despite defeat at Liverpool on Saturday.

The Magpies’ midfielder admitted that when Steve Bruce first arrived he recognised the belief within the squad, and went on to say that the new boss has already taken it to another level.

Speaking to the Chronicle, the former Arsenal man shared that Bruce saw the fight in his new squad, and their determination to want to succeed in the Premier League.

“The team spirit is massive here,” he said.

“The manager could see it the moment he walked through the door. The lads here all want to do well.”

“Steve Bruce has got us together even more and made us better at it.”

Newcastle find themselves in the relegation zone after five matches, having only four points, with only the single victory so far in the league to their name.

There is no doubting the determination and drive the Newcastle players have to want to succeed at the club. Those same traits have been clear to see at St James’ Park throughout even Rafael Benitez’ time in charge at the club in recent years. What is more intriguing is the fact that Hayden actually admits that Bruce has taken that and actually improved the belief since he arrived, with his Newcastle roots possibly behind his success in those regards. It hasn’t yet been shown on the pitch though, and while fans can accept defeats against the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool – losing away at Norwich City would have been disappointing. The 3-1 defeat at Carrow Road has been the low point in this campaign, as Bruce’s players were outclassed and outbattled in all areas of the park – something that is unacceptable. The Magpies have bounced back since, and Bruce will be happy with the effort that his side has displayed since.
