Reported Newcastle United target Marrony has suggested that the Magpies are his Premier League team of choice.

The Brazilian striker has been linked with a potential move to Tyneside this summer, as reported by Globo Esporte, but it has seemed as if any deal has fizzled out in recent days.

But when asked about which English side he liked to follow, the Vasco de Gama ace said Newcastle, as reported by journalist Felipe Schmidt.

OPINION

This is certainly an interesting little story. At this stage, you would be amazed if Marrony was a Newcastle player come 5pm tomorrow, but it sounds as if he’d pretty made up if he was. Never underestimate how much the reputation of a club can influence a player’s decision whether to join them or not, and it sounds as if Marrony is a bit of a Magpie at heart. The deadline is quickly approaching, and Steve Bruce will probably feel that any funds he does have left would be better spent elsewhere than on an unproven Brazilian forward, but this could be a really useful development for further down the line. The youngster has a lot of potential, and managed averages of 1.8 shots on goal, 2.1 successful dribbles, and 2.2 aerial duels won in his home country last term, as per Whoscored. He sounds like a handful, and if he can grow a little bit more, and work on his finishing somewhat too, he could be a smart addition for the Toon Army at some point in the future.
