Allan Saint-Maximin will return to Newcastle United training later this week, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.

The Frenchman missed out on the Magpies’ trip to Norwich City on Saturday due to a hamstring complaint, with his side losing 3-1 in his absence.

But Downie expects him to be back in action in the coming days.

Sharing photographs of Saint-Maximin at a local food bank to his personal Twitter account, he said: “In hamstring news, he’s set to return to training later this week”.

OPINION

Newcastle have got off to a pretty dire start this season. Their 1-0 opening day defeat to Arsenal showed flashes of what the Toon Army are capable of, but against Norwich they were lacklustre, devoid of creation, and ultimately very, very poor. Saint-Maximin has yet to start a game for the Magpies, but there have already been hints pf what he can do, and that rampant creativity was certainly missing against the Canaries. In his 23 Premier League minutes so far he has a pass completion rate of 100%, has completed two successful dribbles, and been dispossessed just one, as per Whoscored. More importantly, however, he looked lively, and for a side who were as dull and listless as United were on Saturday, that shouldn’t be underestimated. The sooner he is fit enough to be starting matches, the better.
