Don Hutchison has taken to Instagram to post a joke aimed at Newcastle United for their poor start to the Premier League season.

Steve Bruce’s side have lost both of their opening games, with the 3-1 defeat to newly-promoted Norwich on Saturday leading to many bookmakers tipping the Magpies for relegation.

Ex-Sunderland star Hutchison has not exactly been sympathetic to Newcastle with a post on his personal Instagram account, suggesting that pitch invaders may do a better job for Bruce than his players.

“This trend of idiots running onto football pitches need to stop sharpish. It’s only a matter of time before someone does it at Newcastle and gets man of the match,” the joke said.

OPINION

Newcastle fans may be angry at Bruce for the way he has set his team out to play in the opening two matches, but those supporters cannot ignore the fact that the players have been drastically underperforming too. Not one player can hold their head up high after the first two matches. Isaac Hayden may have been the best player on the pitch for Newcastle in the two games but even he knows that he can do better. Bruce’s tactics need to change but that does not excuse the players for their mistakes and lack of effort. Newcastle just look so easy to play against. Everyone is so close to each other in the defence and midfield which leaves gaps all over the pitch to exploit. It also leaves the forward extremely isolated. Joelinton missed a sitter against Norwich but that is basically the only clear cut chance he has had in two matches. It needs sorting out but you cannot see there being a turnaround against Tottenham on Sunday.
