Steve Bruce has called up young midfielder Joe White to senior first-team training, according to the Chronicle.
The regional newspaper claim on their website that the exciting academy prospect has been promoted and given the chance to impress the Magpies’ boss ahead of the new Premier League season.
The Chronicle report that Bruce is keen to take a closer look at the 16-year-old starlet, and is eager to explore youth options after the transfer window shut on Thursday evening.
White is a former Carlisle United player and was snapped up by Newcastle during his time in their youth ranks – and has impressed at under 18’s level for the North East club.

This is definitely something that sends out the right sort of message to everyone involved at Newcastle. The fans will be delighted that younger options are being given the chance to learn from the first-team once given the opportunity, and that could lead to them earning a place in the senior squad for games in competitions against potential lower league opponents. The academy players will also see the likes of White earn a call-up and will be driven to put in that extra hard in the hope that they could be given the same opportunity to impress Bruce someway through this upcoming campaign. The 16-year-old playmaker certainly deserves his chance to show what he can do after a breakout season for the under-18s. White featured 13 times in the U18’s Premier League, and managed to score a couple of goals, as well as assisting another four – averaging a goal involvement every 180 minutes [Source: Transfermarkt]. The chance to train with the senior squad is only going to benefit White himself, with the added physicality and quality around him surely set to rub off on him and make him into a better player for the future.
